Healthy cattle on green pasture
El Salvador · Cattle Industry

A stronger cattle industry for a stronger nation.

We connect El Salvador's ranchers, institutions, and partners with the genetics, expertise, and project leadership to build a cattle industry that is productive, profitable, and resilient.

Based in El Salvador 20+ years in the cattle industry Proven in the world's most demanding markets
Why now

A once-strong industry, ready to rise again.

Nowadays, El Salvador imports most of the meat it eats. Decades of hardship decimated a cattle sector that once fed the entire country. Today, El Salvador is going through its rebirth, and the moment to rebuild the cattle industry is here. We believe that work should rest on three things:

Productive

Better genetics and better practice mean more, and higher-quality, beef from the same land.

Profitable

We treat producers as businesses, not beneficiaries, so the work pays for itself and lasts.

Resilient

A country that can feed itself stands on its own. Food security is national security.

What we do

A connector for the whole industry.

We do not aim to be the face of the sector. We are facilitators: we bring the players together and move things forward quickly.

01

Elite genetics

We bring proven genetics to El Salvador, from breeding straws to live stock, so a herd can improve in a few seasons rather than a generation.

02

Technical assistance & training

We work alongside the Ministry of Agriculture and local ranchers, sharing best practice in breeding, nutrition, and regenerative grazing, and training Salvadorans to lead the work.

03

Project leadership & partnerships

We organize the people, institutions, and resources a serious cattle project needs, and see it through from the first meeting to delivery.

04

Toward national supply

We are helping lay the groundwork for the processing and infrastructure El Salvador needs to feed itself well, step by step.

From good to world-class

The fastest way forward is better genetics.

A single elite bloodline, bred well, can transform a herd. We select genetics that thrive in a tropical climate and pass their quality on, so the gains compound from one farm to the national herd.

  • Proven bloodlines suited to El Salvador's climate
  • A herd that improves season after season, not generation after generation
  • Knowledge transferred to local ranchers, so the gains stay in El Salvador
  • A model built to scale, from a single farm to the whole country

Drag to compare. The American Red line is bred from elite Santa Gertrudis, Shorthorn, and Red Angus genetics.

Who we are

Two complementary builders, one mission.

Origen Ganadero pairs deep development experience with a builder's drive and a ranching heritage.

Andrea Hernández Tobar, co-founder of Origen Ganadero

Andrea Hernández Tobar

Co-founder · Project leadership

Born in El Salvador and home again after two decades abroad, Andrea spent some twenty years leading international development projects across Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East, including directing agriculture and water programs in Ethiopia, working hand in hand with rural ranchers. She brings the project leadership, and the producer-as-business philosophy, that turn good intentions into working enterprises.

Tom Taber, co-founder of Origen Ganadero

Tom Taber

Co-founder · Genetics & network

A native Texan from a ranching family, Tom spent over a decade building enterprise technology, rising to the C-suite and launching the fiber division that outlived the company that started it. He came to the cattle world through a conviction about real food and self-reliance, and now brings the network, the genetics connections, and the drive to make El Salvador's beef among the best anywhere.
